Culinary Magic at the Regenerative Design Institute eBook Carin McKay Reviews

This cookbook has recipes for healthful, creative food with a purpose - to nourish you, your spirit and your family and community. Carin's art is how food transforms - that's the magic. I learned so much from her not just about the nuts and bolts of cooking but about how to approach cooking with respect and reverence and choose ingredients that support healthy, just and sane systems and help people be part of healthy, just and sane systems. This cookbook is about giving of yourself through food.

I have worked in kitchens that she has directed and her approach to cooking is collaborative and improvisational. Many of these recipes are a "perfected" version of dishes that can handle a lot of last minute "you know, I'm feeling a little bit more smoked paprika and less lime right now."

My husband was a test cook for this cookbook also (full disclosure) and I was proud to support her efforts by providing feedback that is helping grow this community of Carin's fans! It's amazing how forgiving a loving, supportive community is about food that is prepared with love and the best intentions. My favorite recipes are the rose hip pie, and the peruvian chicken. And the grain loaf has hit heavy rotation in my bread alternatives.
This book happened to come my way just as my first garden was coming to fruition. I had collard greens coming out my ears and had no idea what to do with them. Fortunately, this cookbook provided me with several options and I tried them throughout the season, enjoying collards for the first time in my life. So anytime I didn't know what to do with the bounty from my garden, I turned to this cookbook and made one amazing dish after another. The recipes are easy to follow, the text and stories are the best I've ever seen in a cook book and I definitely see an improvement in my cooking skills as a result of working with these recipes.
Culinary Magic is unlike any cookbook I have ever used and it is in the top 3 of my go-to cook books and let me tell you a story why

I had 2 performing artists staying at my house over night and they were VEGAN! (This wondrous cookbook has recipes to satisfy all the Vegan, Vegetarian and Omnivores in your life)

Now I have decent kitchen skills but know nothing on how to cook for a vegan diet. I had recently picked up a copy of Culinary Magic and dove into it to find something that would work. I cooked up a dinner of white chili with a kale side dish and breakfast of Scrambled Tofu. One performer is from New Mexico and as he said "Chili if our State dish". Both meals got big thumbs up and surprised myself with how good they tasted. To top it off I learned that there is a way to cook kale and make it delicious.

Wonderful recipes, healthy, wholesome, inventive and delicious.
Every recipe I have followed comes out perfect and make sure you try the Red Lentil soup - so much fun!
Buy this book.

There are many reasons, but if I sit here for hours giving them all to you, you will not have the pleasure of unwrapping the gift for yourself.

Carin brings common sense, easy-to-follow and delicious food recipes along for a visually gorgeous ride through her passion and commitment to sustainable eating, sharing food as a communal act of love, and cooking as a transformational meditation.

This book will help you cook food, but it is so much more than that. I invite you to buy this book and find out for yourself the thoughtful and affirming insights that will enrich your life as surely as it will enrich your table.
I was fortunate enough to be introduced to this book through one of Carin's friends who cooked for a retreat in which I participated. We ate the granola from this book every morning for breakfast and it was SO delicious. I had yet to find granola with the perfect crunch until this. The book is not only full of amazing recipes, but also beautiful photos and a wonderful voice. I am very picky about buying cookbooks these days since so many recipes can be found online, but this one is well worth it.
This cookbook contains both incredible various recipes as well as beautiful accompanying pictures. In addition, the content on ingredient substitution and philosophy of cooking and meals are worth the purchase alone. A great find!
