When the CEO of a local casino is fished out of a lake by former police officer Andy Burns, it sours his otherwise peaceful retirement. Something about the murder weapon, a custom-made knife jutting inches above the late CEO's silk tie, sticks in Andy's mind. He's seen this blade before and Andy is not happy about the implications his admission will mean for an old friend.
Sergeant Jolene Hadfield is assigned the case, and despite rampant racism, sexism and nasty inept department politics that hamper her investigation, she comes to suspect an unlikely motive for revenge may be the reason for the murder. Her boss on the other hand, insists she button the case up, and pin the whole thing on a too convenient suspect—compelling evidence to the contrary or not. For Hadfield solving the crime might become secondary to keeping her job.
Burns and Hadfield might make an unlikely team, but together they have a shot at finding the real killer, even if it's going to make them rather unpopular in this part of Mississippi. This is not a fight either of them were looking for, but it's not one they plan on backing down from.
Don't miss this true-to-life police procedural thriller by debut author/former police officer Tom Ellis.

This book desperately needs to be well edited, and not just for punctuation, but also for missing words, words being repeated and probably more as well. The story kept me reading in spite of all that. And I look forward to reading the next book in the series, fingers crossed for much better editing!
Three stars because of the above.

Biloxi Lights eBook Tom Ellis Reviews
Loved the book. I'll save it and read it again years from now. Yes, editing was awful, but had a good story line. Unexpected in parts.
This is a well written story with a great plot and well developed characters. I thought from the title and cover it might be a fluff story but it is a serious story and well worth your time. I loved the main characters.
The author pulls you into the story with such great characters . I couldn't lay the book down. You won't regret reading this book.
Good story, but the grammar was atrocious. Missing words, bad punctuation, and incorrect homonyms abound. If the author would consider using a competent editor I would be interested in reading more of his works. This was a nice police procedural if you overlook all the errors.
It had a good story line and the details were good. However, the editing was terrible, if not nonexistent. Commas where they should not have been and missing where they should have been. Periods missing. Wrong words, missing words, and repeating words. I think with proper proofreading and editing it would be a very good book, but as it is, it is almost unreadable.
Really enjoyed this book and was anxious to get to the ending for the plot to be tied together. I didn't give it 5 stars because I was disappointed with the flirty development between FBI Agent Havelee Harris and Andy Burns. Havelee knew of Andy's interest in LT. Jolene Hadfield and ended up in the shower with him. It seemed odd to me that encounter was added. Having Havelee help Jolene a second time recovering was also strange since it was after her sexual encounter with Andy, yet HH was portrayed as a friend to Jo. I would have enjoyed a little more detailing on bringing Jo & Andy together throughout but especially at the end. There was an abruptness to the end without it. Looking forward to Tom Ellis' next book. Hopefully it's part of a series with Jo and Andy's relationship coming full circle to kick off the beginning story. (Side Note this book is in desperate need of editing throughout the entire book)
Could tell the author was former PD from the level of detail and the reslistic police politics. An excellent story that actually brought tears to my eyes, which is rare. Other than the grammer/editing issues, this is a great read. Well paced storyline, great mix of characters, and it broadened my understanding of life in Biloxi and surrounding areas, not to mention the art of making weapons. Will definitely read other books from this author.
